When two people get into a heated physical fight in Chicago, it can be easy to forget about the consequences of their actions until it is too late. Many people may not realize that they can be held legally accountable for the bodily damage that they inflict on another. This includes being responsible for medical costs and if applicable, funeral costs as well. In addition to monetary compensation, knowing that they have seriously injured another human being is something that they will have to live with for the rest of their lives.

One man that will have to live with this knowledge was recently arrested and taken into custody. He is accused of causing a traumatic brain injury in another man during a fight. The victim fell off a flight of stairs after the 37-year-old allegedly punched him in the mouth. When he fell his head hit the ground, causing him to become unconscious. The impact reportedly caused the brain injury that requires the victim to be treated in a rehabilitation facility after being in the hospital for four months. The man’s use of his arms and legs were also affected as a result of his injuries.

This has no doubt been an agonizing time for both the victim and his loved ones. The fact that his life-altering injuries were caused by a senseless act of violence that could have been prevented is even more disturbing. The victim may have the right to compensation for his pain and suffering and medical bills. His family may wish to speak to a lawyer who can help them with their case.
